A definição de “humanidades digitais” é bastante complexa. Ainda não há forma de explicar o que são as DH sem recorrer a várias definições ao mesmo tempo. Estas definições às vezes não concordam entre si, alimentando o debate neste campo ainda novo. Há aqueles que preferem o uso mais abrangente do termo (“the big tent”) mas há outros que preferem uma definição mais estreita, muitas vezes em função do contexto. É difícil estabelecer os limites de um campo que trabalha a partir de disciplinas diferentes e que envolve diferentes profissionais e modos de trabalho. Mas acho a definição de Stephen Ramsay em “On building” uma das mais interessante e queria compartilhá-la com vocês. Ele basicamente afirma que o que têm em comum as DH é a construção, é a prática de “fazer”:
“Building is, for us, a new kind of hermeneutic — one that is quite a bit more radical than taking the traditional methods of humanistic inquiry and applying them to digital objects. Media studies, game studies, critical code studies, and various other disciplines have brought wonderful new things to humanistic study, but I will say (at my peril) that none of these represent as radical a shift as the move from reading to making.”
Acho interessantíssimo o trabalho que vocês estão fazendo no Brasil –eu sou estudante de Matthew Kirschenbaum na Universidade de Maryland, e não é fácil chamar a atenção para projetos em outras línguas que não sejam em inglês (o meu é de tradução do português para o espanhol). Através de projetos como o seu vai acrescentando-se o material digital em português com linhas de pesquisa e interesses próprios. Parabéns!
